Paula Ensign

Ink, watercolor, and the art of noticing

From the moment she first picked up a crayon, Paula Ensign was drawn to the world through art. Trained as an artist and working across graphite, watercolor, and oil, she eventually developed a distinctive style—expressive ink drawings brought to life with gentle washes of color.

Bainbridge Island was home to Paula for many years, and its landscapes, buildings, and quiet details appear again and again in her work. In 2019, Paula passed away after a brief illness, but the warmth of her spirit lives on through the images she left behind. Her family is honored to share her artwork, and Frog Rock is proud to help carry her legacy forward.

Susan Wiersema

Colored pencil, watercolor, and the pleasure of process

Susan Wiersema works primarily with water-soluble colored pencil on artist-grade papers, blending pigment with water and returning to the surface again and again. Trained as a photographer and graphic artist, she brings a strong sense of composition to her work, allowing line, color, and layering to guide each piece as it develops.

Colored pencil and watercolor are her strongest media, and she actively shares them through teaching at the Bainbridge Island Metro Parks and Recreation District and the Winslow Art Center. Susan’s work spans many series—from colored pencil on black paper to pet portraits and plein-air landscapes—and reflects a creative life shaped by curiosity, observation, and the quiet discipline of showing up to draw.
